I remember a while back, reading about getting ford injectors as a replacement part to save cash. My 86' has 52mm TB and is getting some flowmasters and a freeflow cat, but is mostly stock w/ 110k miles.
The engine seams to be starving for fuel at about 70mph, [ stumbling ]. It doesnt seam to happen in each gear possibly because of the extra throttle for acceleration. It has a new fuel pump and filter. Could it be time to replace the fuel reg, diaphram and injectors as a set? If so does anyone recomend the Ford 24lbs injector over a GM or Accel, or any other product. Does Bosch make all these injectors for the car companys, so they are basiclly the same?
Thanks for the input! :grouphug: :steering: PS: dont try to e-mail me right now, its not workin' :mad
Called ford to get info and there are several to choose from and they were clueless as to lbs of each of them. different for auto or manual ect. Does any one have a part# or ford application to reference? Maybe a link to some more info?
FMS are in fact Bosch injectors. But the trick is if you buy them under the FMS name you save 30 to 50%. Don't worry so much. Take the advice of an L98 owner who's used them and you'll be fine. If your car is stock with 22's you'll need the computer prog'd for 24's. I have an LT-1 So I'm not sure about the nuances of installation but I love my injectors and they fit great. Do a search in the archives.
Should I see a noticeable boost in power to justify the change from 21 to 24lbs injectors or are additional mods required to bring out the HP. Do i need to increase fuel presure to feed them? :steering:
Actually from what I've heard you can run 24's with no problem. You might want to do a search in the archives. This topic has been beaten to death :smash:
Here is a reply from a NON-expert user of 24Lb injectors. But what I was told by other users. If directly installed inplace of stock injectors, they will run fine. You should have custom chip made for optimum use. You really do need to to have an adjustable fuel regulator and gauge, as you will be running rich. (wet plugs and black exhaust maybe). The Injectors physically are the same shape and plug right in. It is alot of time to pull the Plenumn and associated wires/cables to even get to the injectors. Follow the directions, as the whole system only goes together one way. I also chose to replace my O rings in the fuel rails (they were cheap from chevy). Mine were old and dry rotted and easy to replace once I had it off.
I have the Accel's 24lbs now from jegs. Good luck
I have an '86 with 110k miles, and have had the FMS injectors in since 103k. Absolutely fine, no problem. I didn't install them, but the mechanic said they fit wothout problem. BTW, I have an early '86 with the iron heads.
Remember that FMS injectors at 24lbs are not the same as GM injectors at 24lbs. Ford injectors are rated at 39psi of fuel pressure and GM's at 43.5psi. That means the FMS injectors flow about 25.34lbs in your Vette. This means that you engine will run rich when the oxygen sensor is not used ie. idle and WOT. Not a big problem but I just thought you should know. And you will not notice any improvement in hp over the old ones exept when your old ones are leaking or otherwise bad.
