Today I leave for a road trip to southern California from Seattle and as it sits, the engine is hard to start (warm or cold) and when I am coasting, if I stab the gas, the engine dies, but then quickly recovers. Otherwise it is running normal, can accelerate fine, idles like it used to, etc.
The only thing I have changed was the PCM program, I reverted to a more conservative tune for better MPG on the way down. I messed with a few little things like idle speed to get around a nasty drone.
I am thinking it might be the fuel pump?? I don't smell gas when it is hard to start, so I don't think it is flooding. I also have to pump the gas a little to get things "going".
I am going to revert back to my previous program and see if the problems still exist, and if so, buy a fuel pressure gauge.
Re: Having big problems just before long trip! (ninetyfivevette)
I would revert back to the original stock program until you can iron out what the problem is..........especially when long trips are involved........good luck
Re: Having big problems just before long trip! (ninetyfivevette)
I just flashed the previous known good program, and it seems to start slightly easier; I can get it the first try. It also will not die when I stab the throttle, though it does stumble a little, then catch itself, where it previously would not.
Re: Having big problems just before long trip! (ninetyfivevette)
If the fuel pump is bad, how do they fail? Is it a slow death or to they just die? I am wondering if I can get away with driving it and not having to mess with changing the pump since it cruises just fine.
Re: Having big problems just before long trip! (ninetyfivevette)
Well, measured fuel pressure with my new gauge, and it looks decent enough not to be the problem. There is more than enough pressure at the rail before cranking, so that leads me elsewhere.
Hopefully not the opti.. :(
I am crossing my fingers it was the gas I got yesterday, since all this happened about 100 miles after I got fresh gas.
