Smooth Starting......
While i was on the hunt for my vette i looked at several..and something stuck out on this beat up '86 i looked at. when i turned the key, it fired right up, no straining, stuttering or whatever. i ended up buying another car but my 89 dosn't start like that and i want it to. using commmon sense i figure it must be something like plugs, fuel pump, starter.......how can i "fine tune" this problem so i'll fire right up?

I've noticed this on my Vette, when it was working back in the day ... It would take about 5 seconds for it to fire up. my only guess, and I don't know much, is fuel pressure. Whenever I open my gas cap, there's no pressure. On my dad's Trooper, you have to open the cap slowly because it's pressurized. I think I read in the manual or someplace that there's supposed to been pressure in the system, which sounds logical. I could suggest checking for vacuum leaks. I don't know about other Vettes, but mine has a very strong fuel smell up front, don't know if it's unburnt fuel or exhaust, but it's strong. maybe the others can help

mine was taking a bit to start up. I "borrowed" ourruby's gas cap... Guess what... HUGE difference.. My 93 now starts on the first twist of the key!
Y'all Might want to look into a new gas cap.. being that I borrowed one, I dont know how much they cost, but I do know I'll be getting a new one since I'm sure dad doesnt want to have the same problem I had :D
