I had this cocky little ******* tell me that I paid to much for my car (17750 with 58000 miles, 96 LT4), and then he told me that he could blow by doors off. He has a 96 Z28, but he is a rich boy how has no respect.
Anyways, I was just venting. But what is the real ability of the LT4 6 spd. Real hp, torque, driveability? I want to get into solo racing, hopefully the end of August, and what to know the ability of the car. Thanks for the info.
Jonathan
PS Can anyone in the Houston area tell me any good clubs to join, if any.

Well if he is a rich boy, why is he driving a car 7 years old? :skep:

Most LT4's dyno around 300 HP, some more, some less, which gives the engine about 360 HP. 0 to 60 average about 4.7 seconds with a 1/4 mile time around 13 seconds. I've seen a few stock LT4's hit the high 12's in the 1/4 mile. As for solo racing any vette is a race car 1st and street car 2nd. Of course suspension, gearing, tires, etc. will determine how well a car runs on the track, but a vette with the LT4 is a very formable competitor.
jonathan, please join us at our solo events. we have some good vette people, and the knowledge pool is pretty impressive.
august 2 (saturday), there's an afternoon/night auto-x at gulf greyhound park. email me for info/directions, i can show you what i've done on my LT4 and take you through the course.
as for the fellow with the camaro, the problem is that houston is one of the cities with mega fast streetcars. you never know what he's done to his car, and no matter what you do to yours, there's always someone faster. i joined a friend of mine once, hitting the streets in his mustang with over 1000hp to the wheels. it pretty much looked stock. what's insane is that there are some vettes and vipers that can hang with it. (somewhat due to traction, but also because it's hard to spot the difference between a stock Z06 and one with a nitroused 422.)
$17750 for an LT4 with those miles is a fair if not good deal. The kid doesn't know what he's talking about, or maybe he's just using his quick-to-depreciate f-body as a yardstick by which to measure Corvette value, which only reinforces our notion that he is an idiot. F-bodies are cool, but the kid needs a reality check. If his car is stock you will provide that reality check when you run him at the track.
Your LT4 should be capable of 12.9 if you can shift gears well enough, and get the best launch.

I agree that this idiot has no idea what he's talking about. 17,750 is a pretty good deal for these cars. He's obviously jealous that you're driving a better car than he is. Regarldess of the mods he has, your car can be modded to be just as fast or faster, looking much better doing it. ;)
Out of the Box, the LT4 Vette should beat the Z28 straight line or road race.
Unless you have a "built on Monday morning" motor that just is not up to specs.
Best news is that the Vette motor will modify to 500 HP without Nitrous or Turbo and still look stock except for the headers. Add 100 of Nitrous and the Vette will take most all comers. Of course if rich boy spends $$$ his Mustang can do this too.
KN filter and muffler elims I just dynoed 318rwhp and 316 rwtrq and backed it up with 2 other pulls over 310rwhp and rwtrq in the 310-315 range. FWIW, my stock LT4 beat all other vettes including the heads/cam/stroker C5s at the cruise in last May. They do pretty well.
Bang for the buck LT4 is the best vette out there.I would have to tear my whole 85 engine apart to run in the 12s .The LT4, just change your fkn air filter!!!!!!!
You should be able to take the Z28.
I believe the Z28 is a heaveir car and weight kills take off!
As mentioned earlier. You need to be proficient at shifting.
Don't be afraid t allow the RPMs get up there either.
If it's a DRAG race check here on the forum and see what the ideal launch RPM is. Several folks here have experience with that.
I know folks who swear the Lt4 Six speed will take most LS1 C5s!
Good Luck and don't let us down! :flag

You too, Monte. Stop it. You're making me want to ditch my perfectly good LT1 for an LT4 :p:
Thanks for the info guys. He has a pretty hot car supposedly, and he has nos. His dad is a dealer, but I will see what he's got. I'm not to bad at shifting so I will take him on and let ya'll know how it goes. I just don't want a corvette to look bad loosing to a camaro. I'll report back when I get the chance to take him on. Thanks again.

P.S. I plan on coming out to the Houston SCCA events but August 2nd I can't make it. I'm getting stage 2 of a root canal done. But I will be out at the end of August.
