Default Quick question about gears

Been a long time since I've been on here so Hi to all.

Finally have my car running really well. Thing is I still have the 2.59 gears :banghead:I know gears will not increase the HP of the engine but will it improve my overall acceleration? If so why?

Gears will increase torque at the rear wheels; they also run you out of the high-torque 1st gear quicker.

A 2,000rpm TC and shift kit will increase low end torque (in 1st gear) and enhance driving fun.

Some simple mods to your L98 will also increase acceleration.

What mods do you have?

Going to 3.07s would be as far as you need to go. The lower ratio would cause the engine to rev quicker and get up to peak power rpm.

The thing about the L98 is that it doesnt need a really low gear, because all our power is made at low rpms.

Default Quick question about gears

The BEST thing I have ever done for this car was to scrap the D36 and 2.59's. They we're God awful.

I like 3.45s. They give a nice street snap, they still get good gas mileage on the highway, and parts are easy to get seeing they we're o.e.m.(D44) in all six speeds from '85 up(I think, you get the point).

If you're not going to drag race the car, you could swap out the ring and pinion for a 3.54. That is not that much lower(higher numerically) than 3.45.

Good luck.

Yes

If so why?
Basically if I understand it right, it allows what HP/TQ you do have to move the car easier, resulting in better acceleration.

You have to turn it back on in your profile. Here about a month or 2 ago they defaulted them to off.
