4+3 first gear OD lock out
Last week (or so) I posted a question about the 4+3 and why the OD seems to kick in at first gear also. This has become quite an annoyance to a Canadian boy like myself who cannot drive past a donut shop for a scalding hot java. When the OD does its thing in first I invariably end up wearing some of the coffee. This little event can become quite spectacular when I am driving in shorts. Long story short (I know, too late) how do I lock out OD in first like later models?

by lock out do you mean make change the switch type so that it only comes on when you want it too? If that its there is a tech-tip on how to rewire it. Although I am not sure if you really want to be using the OD in 1st gear, if I remember correctly the 86 switch is like my 87 and all I do is turn it off once I see the little OD light come on as I am shifting and then you just dont have to worry about it.

By lock out I mean dis-allow OD in first automatically. Later models have a swith under car near the shifter that mechanically dis-allows OD in first...hence the 4+"3"...in effect, 86s are 4+4s
