I read some of the other posts regarding Mobil 1 for the engine, but I'm about ready to change the trans fluid again. I have been using Castrol, but with some of the posts, I may change to a synthetic. If so, what would be the best brand? What happens with the fluid still in the converter? Does it mix with the synthetic ok? Or do you drain the converter? So the next question is draining the converter. In the "old days', we would drill a 1/4" hole in the converter, thread it and put in a short 1/4" tapered brass plug without any problems. With the new converters, is this a no-no? Or is there something I have missed on the converter.
I think I'm gonna try Royal Purple ATF if i can find any. Definitely whatever synthetic i can find.
The method you talk about draining the TC is the only method i ever heard of, but i didnt do that the last time i changed the fluid. All I did was fluid/filter.

Re: Trans fluid Reg or synthetic? (subman)
My 95 had 84,000 and very dirty fluid. I ran-flushed it using B&M's Trick Shift synthetic. Shifts much better now. Have added about 3,000 miles since including a 1,500 mile trip, no problems. Ran about 13 qts. thru to get it clean at $6.00 per... ouch! Also it's almost clear (blue tint) when installed, had to paint the unmarked side of my dipstick flat black to read the level. B&M recommends syn. for later model electronic trans...... Good luck.
I went to buy Redline from Summit at $32/gal., but they were out. 1 shop in town carried Royal Purple and they would have had to order it too. My rebuilt tranny was waiting for fluid so I ended up going with Mobil synthetic ATF at $5/qt.
So the consensus is - - synthetic all the way. Kinda have 1 vote each: B&M Trick Shift, Royal Purple, Redline, Mobil 1. Assuming I can drain the converter, does anyone know the capacity of the trans including the converter.
Thanks for the replays
