Default Transverse Spring in C4's

Can anyone tell me what to do about a rather loud noise coming from the area where the spring contacts the lower control arms, and how it can be fixed. The slightest bump and it sounds like the suspension is coming apart. Lubricant needed? The noise is definately coming from the fiberglass spring. :smash:

Check to make sure the brackets that hold it in are secure. They are on the underside of the car, about 1 ft inwards from the end, in the recesses of the frame underneath. Check to make sure the rubber etc is in good shape.

Is the ride height of the car the same? Maybe the spring is broken.

Sounds like the rubber under the end of the spring that meets the lower control arm is gone or going ? ? ? ?

Ride height seems to be the same on both side and there are no obvious alignment problems. But, the rubber is definately gone or nearly. After checking a few local parts places, I was unable to find any rubber inserts (?) and it doesn't show any in the repair manuals I have. Happen to know where I can get the rubber to fix this? BTW, thanks for the reply.

I just removed my leaf last night, going to coil overs. Those pads are glued to the end pretty good. I tried to remove one in order to facilitate sliding the leaf out of the crossmember & gave up, a little oil, a wood block & a big hammer helped it slide right out... :smash:

That rubber piece is really glued on well from G.M.

Other then buying a new transverse spring, I don't know what to tell you.

Talk to Travis at "Exotic Muscle", see what he recommends.

If you go to coilovers, I'd recommend you check into a camber brace if you don't already have one. With the transverse leaf, the load is transferred to the center of the engine cradle, and the shocks carry a small load to the frame. With coilovers, the entire weight of the car is carried by the springs, and a significant side load is exerted on the frame and hence the engine cradle. That causes the tops of the a-arm uprights to move inboard and outboard, changing the camber.

Curious what coilovers you ended up using, and what spring rate.

Are you getting a creaking/squeaking noise? I'm familiar with the spring pads, and they move side to side within the lower control arm as the suspension travels up and down. I presume you've checked the sway bar linkage and the shock travel for binding?
