My 89 has a problem where it won't idle without holding the pedal down partway. This is an intermittant problem that only seems to occur when the car is really hot. If you drive it for a while and the engine cools back down, it works fine and idles with no problem. The car is not showing any error codes, and drives fine otherwise. If it helps, the car is harder to start when warm, takes more cranking. Should I be looking at my MAF relays or does it sound like a problem with my IAC?
I recently purchased an 89 with 32k and noticed that it idled too slow once it warmed up. So slow in fact that it would die at the lights. I don't know if it was the right thing to do but I sped up the the idle by screwing in the idle adjustment. Now it idles between 6 and 7 depending on the mood of the engine I guess. I had the car scanned and it showed no codes. Good luck, maybe someone else has some info for you.
Can an EGR valve problem be heat related? It only does this when the car is run hard and gets really hot, never during normal driving. Runs great otherwise with good power.
I had the same problem in my 91, removed IAC and cleaned. No trouble since. Make sure you replace the TB gasket when You remove it and replace it dry. Good Luck! :steering:
