Recently I have had minor problems shifting into 1st and 3rd gears. The shifter won't go into those gears. It frees up when you try a 2nd time. I have had experience with a early 90's Miata with simular issues and that truned out to be a bushing where the shifter enters the trans housing. Does the 94 6 speed have such a bushing or does anyone know what could be the problem.
check the fluid level in the clutch master cylinder. Keep your clutch system in top shape or you will be spending $1800+ on a rebuild of your trans. I will bet that you are experiencing the early stages of syncro deterioration.
Changed the oil in the spring, 4k miles ago with 10-30 from the dealer. What came out at that time was like gold-bronze colored. This problem just recently started to occur.
Here's a shot in the dark, how about checking the linkage. There are four bolts that hold the shifter in place. Maybe loose? How about the pin that connects the shifter to the rod that goes into the transmission? Just some easy things to checkout.
Re: 6 Speed Shifter problem, 94 coupe LT1 (T1Kilr)
I'd check clutch fluid also. If you have the car up and someone helping you,
you can see the clutch fork move from the side inspection hole when the pedal is depressed. Use a mirror and flashlight.
My guess from 1,000 miles away is that your hydraulic system needs attention. That is most often the culprit in hard shifting ZF's, not the shifter, clutch or other possibilities. R&R your ZF fluid. Use factory fill. The BMW stuff mentioned above is fine also. Purge all your clutch fluid, then bleed your slave cylinder. Try this method of bleeding first: remove the cap and inner rubber sleeve/shield. Depress slowly the clutch pedal and have your assistant watch the bubbles raise up to the top. Once there are no more bubbles, you should have a firm clutch pedal. If that doesn't do it, a new clutch master and slave cylinder should do it. I seriously doubt that you have shifter maladies unless the car was hammered unmercilously.
