Inlet is bottom - contains the orifice; outlet is top. Use a backup wrench when disconnecting the inlet - the evaporator side is easy to bend and old connections may be rusted. If it's damaged, NAPA makes a repair kit.

It'll only go in one way - the same as the old one that you take out. If you try to force it, you'll ruin it, so pay attention when you take it apart.

Has you can see above this is different from the stock one. According to the instrucktions the flow of the freon goes toward the point. So if the inlet is the bottom would this mean arrow up?

I don't have a spare to compare it with - I found out the hard way years ago that it's only going to fit one way, but the rectangular, flat end is usually at the top (also so you can get a good grip on it to remove it). If there is an arrow on it, it should point down. Hopefully, that VOV will fit your year.

Small AC line = high pressure side = evap input
Large AC line = low pressure side = evap output

Filter goes to the high pressure side,..... if the filter was on outlet of the orifice,... junk could clog the orifice,..... i.e. The filter is ther to protect the orifice.
Make sense?
