Clutch (again) long rant
About 1 1/2 years ago the stock clutch burnt up. With 62,000 miles on the car no problem.
Went to my Corvette mechanic and he said put another stock clutch in and we will refinsh the flywheel. I mentioned GM says not to refinish. He said the part is around $1,000. I said OK.
About 8 months ago this 2nd clutch burnt up.
Went to my Corvette mechanic and said WTF. He said well you are racing it if you are slipping the clutch too much it will burn up. I said what about the flywheel, he said still doesn't need it. I said OK lets put in a McLeod Street clutch.
After that first clutch went I could never get the same times again. On the first clutch I was getting 2.1 60' and 13.4 at around 107. On the 2nd and 3rd clutches the best I could do was a 13.6 at 104. The last time I went to the track the best 60' I could get were 2.3. The Michelins had hardened from all of my heat cycling lousy 60's.
I saved my nickels and dimes and bought DRs and put in a lineloc.
First time at the track tonight and my first burnout on the new DRs.
Clutch is burning, not the tires... :mad
Tomorrow its back to my mechanic and WTF about the clutch. The only common event in all of this is that stupid flywheel. I am convinced if I had changed it the first time I would not have needed clutch 3.
I am now done ranting, but still very :mad

Have you considered going to a single mass f/w?
I thought GM went with dual mass just to tame the straight cut gear noise, because people thought their ZFs were falling apart.
Single mass - this is my daily driver, I do not want to put up with the noise.
Well, off to talk to the mechanic now. Hopefully this will all turn out OK.
He has done too many things right and saved me too much money to get rid of him over one thing.
it would eat clutches. I paid 850 for the flywheel (part only) and my GM clutch is still ok 25000 miles later, with drag racing, and 3 years time.
If you like this guy, give him a new GM flywheel and a clutch and have him put them in.
I think TPIS had some way around this...you might look into them.
