Hi all, I'm new to the 'Vette forum so bear with me. I was aligning my hood up today after i had the front fascia all apart and whatnot, when i went to open the hood back up and it refused. The passenger's side unlatches but the driver's isn't going at all. Is it possible I broke the driver's side cable and it's not releasing? Whatever it is, i can't get this thing up for the life of me and am seeking advice on how to get my hood back up without getting all hot and bothered about the scenerio. Any help/advice would be vastly appreciated. Great forum, by the way.
It is possible that the hood latch cable is broken. First, make sure that the hood isint rubbing on anything else/sticking anywhere. Remember that the front fascia, bumper, and hood are all aligned sequentially at the factory, so you cant align just one component - you'll have to start at the front and work your way back to the hood. Anyway, Gordon Killebrew, a GM worker who is the final word on C4 corvettes, sells a special tool that will open a stuck hood. Just insert it at the hinge area and twist, and the hood will pop open. It will take you all of two minutes to do. I highly reccommend purchasing this tool. It's only $20. Call 1800-FY-VETTE, and tell Chris (his wife) that Gannon sent you.
If you're in the Chicago area, I have the tool and would be happy to open your hood for you.
If you have made some adjustments, it may be in a bind. Give this a try, while you are applying a little downward pressure to the hood above the DS latch, have some one pull the hood latch lever and hold it.
BTW welcome to the forum. You'll find lots of infomation here.
hey there, if you do a search, there was a post a few eeeks ago with a lot of detail by a few people on how to get it open with minimal damage to the paint under the hood.
