Default Ext Temp Does it read past 99

It like week 3 of sun and heat near 100. While heading to the golf course i thought i would check to see who hot it was. The ext temp showed 99 but it felt hotter.
Is 99 max readout ?

Coming back from the 50th Anniversary, our group headed towards Vegas and when we went over Hoover Dam, the temp readout on my climate control showed 116! Downtown Vegas was (only) 106 when we rolled in.

Oh, how I envy you. I've recently seen ext temps of 125 on mine, today's newspaper headline said this has been the hottest july on record. :cry

:iagree: Hey Shannon - everyone will think we live in Hell - we really only live next door :D The other night when it was raining in Chandler it was only 102 on my patio about 40 miles North of you (no rain at my house) at 11:00pm. Average for July > 111 degrees in Phoenix - hottest ever

But - The beautiful thing about living here is that:

1. You don't have to "shovel" heat out of your driveway to leave the house
and
2. You can enjoy driving your Corvette year round instead of having to put it away 6 months out of the year like many forum members who are posting threads about going through withdrawals every winter! :D

If the sender is on the radiator (why did GM put it there?) as it is on my '89, it picks up engine heat at idle and reads higher than ambient. Great if you want to know air inlet temp or temp at the condensor and I've seen above a 100 at 90 degrees while working on it in the garage. Otherwise, it seems to be a stupid location and think it was moved on later years.

The Model Year (MY) 90 has the temp sensor under/near the front bumper. The C68 has a sampling program using speed, timed samples, etc to correct for atypical locations, like black asphalt lot in Phoenix. The thing will use the last temp till reaching like xx miles per hour, then use the "rolling" sample.

Those darned engineers, too much time on their hands.

Anyone have a good idea the difference between "real" air temp and the temp recorded by the sensor near the radiator when cruising on a hot sunny day. Is the air that much hotter near the pavement?

I thought it didn't go much below 99! :jester

tkrussell: Sitting in traffic on new blacktop, I've seen crazy temps. All depends on situation, no way to guess what each difference is between true air temp and 8 inches off of pavement in each case. Airflow, solar radiant reflection, exhaust from car in front, etc.
