my drivers door light switch does not turn on interior lights and at the same time the rear hatch switch does not work either, both switchs work on the passenger side. Could this be a ground issue or do you think both switchs are bad?
Have same issue also, only the console button works. Niether of the door switches work on either door. but can turn on interior lights with head light switch. weird :iagree:
I had the same issue, it was the door jam switch itself. Without the door jam switch working, the hatch release won't work. I ordered a replacement from Mid America for about $10. When you replace the switch, you'll have to pull the interior door panel off to get to the connection and the backing plate for the switch. Be sure to hold on to that backing plate, I lost one of mine and can't find a replacement. Its an easy thing to replace and takes maybe 30 minutes if you are familar with pulling the interior door panel off.
Re: door jamb light switch not working (Thanatos69)
Thanks for the info. I knew it looked to easy to just unscrew the switch. How difficult is it to take the door panel off? Is therea diagram showing this prcedure? Let me know. I will order the switch. Thanks. :hurray:
The panel is fairly easy to take off, however it varies depending on what year car you have. My experience has only been with my '94 so any other year models might be slightly different. I know there are members who've performed the same minor 'operation' I've done, so if you'll respond with what year model you have I'm sure someone will chip in with the exact details on how to remove the panel. I'd recommend just diving into it as most of the screws are easy to locate. I do know there are a couple of 'hidden' ones in the door handle release assembly, including one behind the courtesy light (have to pop the lens assembly out to get to it). Also this is a good time to do some 'spring cleaning' in your door panels. Trust me there will be a great deal of road dust and grime there.
Got this out of the archives. May help you save some work?To remove and replace the switch without removing the panel do the following:
Remove bottom screw and replace with a longer screw of the same size.
Remove the top screw, pull switch out as far as you can on longer screw.
Replace top screw behind switch. There is a plate inside the door that you
are trying to keep from falling inside the door, if it drops you will need to
pull the panel to get to it.
Remove bottom long screw and pull switch out to get to plug.
Reverse procedure to install new switch.
I did not mention I have 92 coupe. Is that the same procedure. It would be great not to remove the door panel, however I know working on vetts somethimes require more than a Sat. afternoon(x owner of a 68 convet.) Thanks to all. I wil try it without removing the panel, but worst comes to worse that panel is off.
Re: door jamb light switch not working (lou sylvestri)
Your door ajar switch has gone bad....these switches are plastic garbage (thanks GM :smash: )
The dealership replaced 4 IN ONE DAY on my Vette....3 were bad from the factory.
The first one I replaced myself took me over 2 hours......but that was mainly sweating taking off the door panel and then putting it back on....the 2nd and 3rd time it was a 10 minute job once I learned how to take the door panel off.
Joep,
Once you get the new switch installed close the door the first time very gently. I've heard if you close as you normally would, sometimes the pin will break.
