Default Help Need quick ball joint assistance!

I'm in the middle of installing TRW upper ball joints. The instructions say installation order is ball joint, paper gasket, control arm, metal gasket, then boot. To me it seem that if I install in that order, the boot will get crushed between the control arm and knuckle. I think install order should be ball joint, paper gasket, boot, control arm, then metal gasket? What do you guys think? Keep in mind I believe the instructions aren't specific to Corvettes.

I didn't use either gasket, the originals had no gasket, and I believe, the A.C. Delco's I used, the metal gasket wouldn't fit over the ball anyway.....

I only wish I'd try'd to put the rubber boot on after installing the ball joint, on the under side of the control arm. I think the pressure from the knuckle would have held it in place, now there's a gap between the bottom edge of the boot and the surface of the knuckle. But the suspension is still unloaded (engine still out etc)??

So like you, I crushed the boot in from the top.

Oh well.................

Me too. Mine came without any instructions, so I put the boot on before dropping it into the arm. I've had no problems...

Thats good to hear. Now that I've thought about it for awhile, the boot has a metal ring inside the upper lip (inside the rubber), and I don't think that would have seated properly on the other side of the control arm...............
