Default Man does my ZF shift smooth....

I just changed the oil in the ZF and it has made a world of difference. Every shift is as smooth as silk. I went with the synthetic castrol oil from the BMW dealer and so far I am extremely happy with the results. I got the required 17mm allen wrench from sears and an oil pump from autozone to get the stuff up into the trans. Took me no time at all once the car was in the air. I would highly recommend doing this if you trans doesn't seem to be shifting the way it should.

Changing the trans fluid is on my "to do" list.

Does anyone have any concern that with the heavier BMW (10w vs. GM's 5w) oil that you are causing more parasitic loss to the drivetrain.

With the new cars out there on the road, like the 03 Mustang Cobra, I cant afford to sacrifice as much as 1 hp.

If theres no extra parasitic loss to moving a viscous fluid, then Im in!

It takes 2.2 quarts. I stole an idea from someone on the forum on how to put oil into the tranny. A funnel, 4' of flexible hose and a 90 degree elbow. Slide the hose with the elbow attached down from the rear of the engine (up top) down to the tranny. Pour in 2.2 quarts and she's full. It's fast and no mess.

I'm going to look for a digital camera today. If I get one, I'll post a picture of this "quickie tranny filler"

The synthetic Castrol TWS is a 10-60... the factory is 5-30.

Considering it is synthetic, I don't think the extra viscosity is going to be that dramatic, say, comparing the same weights in dino oil.
