After pulling the sensor out of my car to see if it cleared the problem in another LT1 (97' Trans Am), I am now setting code P0336 and P0337, Crankshaft Position Sensor Circuit A Range/Performance.
Does anyone have any experience with these sensors? Is there anything particularly sensitive about them?
I just hate to go buy a replacement without some guidance here.
Your Crank Postion Sensor reads the postition of where the crank is in relation to timing. It is used as a triggering device for the ignition. It is located either in the bottom of the block (VRS type) or behind the harmonic balancer (hall effect design).
I would check manufacturers specifications as to the clearance between the sensor and what it reads (the reluctor or interuptor ring) Usually .050" is spec. Use a feeler guage that is non-magnetic to check the clearances.
