I have a 90 (same heads, same motor) with crower 1.6's. They are a real nice piece but they have a little bit more meat on them which makes clearances too tight at the inside edge of the valve cover, they have to be modified. I would reccomend the comp cams pro magnum series. Your stock springs will be fine.
Go with the ProMagnum 1.6:1 self-aligning RRs (don't know the Comp Cams P/N here), keep the stock push rods, install Comp Cams #981 springs, #728 Ti retainers, #728 10deg locks and use the #4753 shim pack to set install height.
If there is any interference, you will need to remove the studs and toss the stock push rod guides. These were used during factory assembly to roughly hold the push rods in position and so do not interfere with the stock self aligning rockers but may with 1.6:1s.
Toss the oil shedders from atop the stock springs to lighten up the valve train, install a set of GM seals (lower & O-ring uppers) and use FelPro valve PermaDry cover gaskets.
You will need to reduce the drip tabs inside the vavle covers and narrow the bolt bosses for clearance.
Use a little assemly lube on the tips of the push rods, under the RR push rod cuts and on top of the valve stems. Use engine oil to lube the RR bearings.
Is it really necessary to get springs and retainers, I thought the Promagnums were a direct bolt-on for the 91 after removing drip tabs. I was leaning towards the pro mag's anyway from what I've read here and I just wanted to verify what's required and any snags encountered.
