I am getting knock warnings on my 85. They always seem to happen in the 2000-3000 RPM range. I have looked through the archives and read a lot of the posts on this subject and have tried the normal tricks. Extra wraps around the sensor, making sure it is torqued to spec. Torquing it less than spec. Replacing the sensor. Running injector cleaner though it. I am still getting knock warnings.
A lot of people seem to get false knock warnings in the 2000-3000 RPM range. I think that may be the case with mine as well. It doesn't sound like it is knocking but I am not 100% sure. I just don't know what to look for next. Right now I am about at witts end. :(
Re: (False?) Knocking on 85. Possible sources? (DF)
First I would stick a timing light on there, check the timing is OK.
Assuming it is, a weak mixture could give you pre-ignition, or it could be genuinely false, like small ends, ring flutter, lifters, timing chain...oh dear...best check the timing first!
(genuinely false ??? Did I write that???

I believe I tested it a while back using the methods in the shop manual. I would have to double check on that and I don't have the manual here right now.
