Quick question about MAS location
Hey there,
I have a quick question (EDIT: it turns out it's a long question) about the mas air sensors. I did a search, and had lo luck. Did they change the placement of them from the 87-88 cars, or the 89-90?? I am only going by photos of engine bays, but it looks like the 85-87 or 89? cars have the MAS on the circular accordian intake tube, probably about 8 inches before the TB. On the later ones, I can see no MAS at all, It's just the oval-shaped accordian tube running from the airbox to thr TB. So is the MAS inside the airbox or what? Or did they switch to a manifold absolute pressure (MAP) setup of some sort?
Oh, and if the later ones do have the MAS in the airbox, and the oval tube slid off of the airbox, besides taking in unfiltered air, would the engine be in danger of leaning out as well, since it would be taking in unmetered air? Or, do these engines have knock sensors and then the ECU would pull the ignition timing to prevent damage?
Thanks for the help, I'm a turbo DSM guy and am picking up my 90' vette tomorrow to try my hand at tuning a good ol N/A V8, just trying to gain some knowledge.

85-89 has them in the same place
90-91 is a MAP sensor system
90-91 is a MAP sensor system
