Hey Guys,
I bought an 85 Coupe to fix up and I would like some input on the best place to buy carpets, seat covers,(leather), door panels, under dash carpets...ect. The car was built blue then painted red. Interior still blue. I also need to know what years my interior is exchangable with.... just in case I come across a great deal on a piece. Any one with a wrecked car with tourch red interior in good shape? I'd certainly be interested. Thanks'
Troy :)
For the carpet, I would see if there was some upolstry shop that would make it for you cheaper than you could buy it. (Remove the pieces that you want to be remade and they should be able to copy the patern.) I did that for my back storage area and the guy did a good job for the one piece for $80. For the seats, I would just buy new racing seats. If you dont have to have leather, the vinal seats can be pretty cheap and still look pretty F'ing good.
The red in 85 was just that one year and is not the same as the 84 or the 86. It is called Carmine. I got all my interior parts from The Last Detail. Had good prices and everything was good quality. I did the whole carpet set and both door panels. For the seats I went with cloth and had a local shop do the work. Much cheaper than the leather or "leather-like" pre made seats.
I put my carpet in and highly suggest the best quality mass backed carpet. It is molded and fits right into place and follows all the shapes and curves perfectly. You just do a little triming and cutting with a box knife.
I was just cruising Ebay and I found a complete red interior out of an 86 for sale, seats, carpets, door panels, etc... It may not be the exact color you need, but it looks like everything is there to do a change.
I am redoing the all saddle interior on my '87 to saddle and black. The parts changing to black are the seats, door panel carpets and the sill plate covers and pads. I did get new saddle carpets from Mid-Am but the leather saddle seats are being recovered in black leather-grained vinyl. They look real good and they were $280 plus shipping on EBay. The black carpet I bought on a large roll at Pep Boys. It's good enough for the door panels.
The sills I am covering myself in the same vinyl that's on the seats. I have been practicing with a heat gun and am pretty fair at getting the vinyl to bend and lay flat around all those shapes and corners on the covers. I figure it would hold up much better than anything I could paint on them. I hate those "Sill Plate Protectors" the Vette places sell.
But for new Chevy parts, there is only one place, IMO for a good deal. Brasington GM. They sell on-line for 20% above their cost on any new GM
part. That amounts to about a 40% savings from retail at the dealership. http://www.gmotors.com
Hope this info helps you. I had a red '85 Z51. Rad red color, no doubt.
I have an 88 Vette, the inside doors are still in ok shape.
The only thing is that the midle section of the door is missing screws and when I try to put some new screws in... they won't grab or screw into anything... they just stay loose.
Am I just missing little clips from the back of the door? where can I get them? what are they called? and ...... if not then do I have to change the hole midle plastic section of my door? (screw in plastic section arround the handle)
those are called bathtub nuts and they can be had at any autoparts store....if they are not out of stock....get the ones for # 6 or 8 screws. they also make some for 8-10. :seeya
