I read a post stating that the knock sensor can be by-passed by disconnecting
the battery and unpluging the knock sensor then plugging the battery back up
and leaving the knock sensor disconnected. Will this work on my 91 L98, will this leave a code and do I still need to put a resistor in series to ground?
I only get codes occasionally when I'm accelerating hard, once out of every 10 or 15 times I floor it, that' s it. I havent had the sensor on since I bought the car (9 months ago)
Running without the knock sensor is putting the engine at risk.
The connector is the same as the aux fan switch connector and either can be purchased with a wire attached for around $16 from Contemporary Corvette (link on my site).
FYI the resistor method does not work. I've tried it. I even tried fooling the IAT sensor with a resistor and it didn't work. It does work on the water temp sensor though. The ECM looks for the specific frequency of knock for the specific engine. Putting in a resistor reduces the signal amplitude but does not have any effect on frequency. Believe me I learned a lot after I blew an engine by bypassing the knock sensor when I had a chip burned. :nopity :nopity :nopity Just being dumb.
