Will the Canton road race oil pans work with longtube headers? I figure I should get one for my next motor project since I do roadrace, autox, and drag race.

Re: Canton oil pans (RichS)
Rich, because of the low ground clearance I don't think the pan are very different, the difference would be in the baffeling and windage trays and the angle of the pickup. Header clearance is header clearance drag or oval.
It has a winage tray built in and trap doors but also the sump sides are bigger to hold more oil. I was wondering if they would be too close to the header and heat the oil.
Canton pan here with Watson long tubes no clearance problems.
My friend Terry (Widebody) had some issues with clearance using LPE headers with a Canton pan.
At one time I had LPE headers that fit fine with my Canton pan. I believe that all LPE headers are not from the same vendor/manufacture. Has to do with what year they were fabricated in.
You shouldn't have a problem with any type of header - I have the Canton on my race car and I'm more concerned about the oil filter picking up heat from the headers than the oil pan. Plenty of clearance between the headers and the pan.
What do you all know about the pan that DRM sells on their website? I too am looking at this mod (I have TPIS headers) and am unsure about what pan to get. Does amybody have a part number and the best place to get it?
The DRM pan is canton. The canton pans are nice, but I wouldn't go as far to say headers will not be a problem. I have the LPE headers and o to my surprize the headers hit the pan once you tightened them up. Lucky I found this on a pre-build outside the car. I had to dent the canton pan in about 1/4", and some on the header. Needless to say after spending $350 on oil pan and about $700 on headers I really didn't expect to have to redesign them. I have not heard of any other headers having problems to date though.
I agree about moving the oil filter, I dropped about 10 degrees on average by moving my filter up front & away from the headers. I only had about 3/16" clearance between the filter & header collector before the relocation. That 10 degree drop was a back to back test with no other changes, just completed it this past June...
88vette pretty well covered it, the # 7 tube on the LPE 1 3/4 long tubes ducks back in towards the block and will run into a pan with side sumps like the road race Canton. I cut the tube and remade that portion. As Superlund said moving the oil filter with a remote eliminates a good part of the heating effect from the headers. Good luck with your project, the pan is worthwhile, even with the aggravation.
Mike, Canton sells an adapter that bolts to the block where the filter used to reside. It has an inlet and outlet, outlet to a remote filter block, then out of filter block to oil cooler(in and out) then back to the inlet. Superlund (Jim) can probably provide you with the LT1 specific numbers needed as he made this mod right before we did the Pony Express ORR. I'm sure he has pix as well showing where he moved his filter away from the headers and heat. I also have regular photos showing my setup, but it is a L98 application.
So it sounds like that may not be necessary with the TPIS longtubes. Where did most of you order the Canton pan from? BTW, I will be ordering their Road Race pan...
I went directly thru Canton & got a good price. Forum member "No Go" found the best price. Can't remember where though...
You will need the Canton oil pump pickup also. Nice thing about their pickup is the tab that bolts to the pump so that you don't need to braze the pickup to the oil pump.
This (with a Melling HV pump) is also my next mod. I've been told by several vendors that we shouldn't have any problems with our DRM headers. Let us know how it fits.
