Clicking rear end
I'm getting a clickety-click noise when accelarating or going from P to D or reversing directions. Could this be the u-joints? Seems to drive ok but somethin' ain't right. :nonod:
U-joints may or may not be the problem. C4's ahve a rusty axle spindle problem, but to check:
To check the U-joints, jack up both rear wheels, put the tranny in neutral and rotate the wheel while watching the U-joints. If the wheel moves say a 1/2 inch before the half-shaft rotates, then yes its U-joints. Do the same thing to other wheel.
I had this problem, every time when Id accelerate I'd hear a click.
Turns out its rusty axle spindle noise. Unbolt the rear brakes/hub/bearing assembly and use a wire brush to brush the splined axle shaft free of surface rust. Then apply liberal amounts of anti-seize and put ti back together. Do the same to the other side. You also may want to remove and clean metal filings off the rear ABS sensor on each side since it is there....
This fixed my clickety-click problem. Good luck.
DO NOT TAKE IT TO THE DEALER (Sorry for those of you who hate CAPS). They wont have any idea whats going on and will sell you hundreds of dollars worth of parts which may or may not fix the problem.
