The road to the golf course is like a washboard resulting in my mirrors ratteling. I read the tech tip and proceded to repair.
The problem i ran into is there are 2 rubber boots that seal the adjusting rods from the elements. In order to remove the 3 motor screws i had to tear the boot from the outer rod on the back of the mirror. The lower on also suffered a small tear as i attempted to save as much as i could by tilting the mirror down to get at all the srews.
The drivers side i just tilted the mirror down and only removed and replaced the top screw with loctite.
Do all years have these boots ?
Shouldn't have this tech tip warned people about unsealing the boots ?
I'm going to get some contact cement and go back in for the repair. Just thought i would share my insight :D :smash: :smash: :smash: :smash:
Yes, I removed the glass before I tightened the three motor screws. I adjusted the mirror all the way "in" towards the car, then gently pulled on the glass, it pops right out. I'm surprised that wasn't mentioned in the tech tip.
The glass is held in place by a + shaped mount that is press-fit into the backside of the mirror and the mirror motor.

What i meant was if you had removed the glass only from the plastic frame. There are three holes in that plastic frame to allow GM people to install motor onto mount then attatch glass after. That way the boots stay intact.
