A few misc. transmission performance questions......
Soon my trans will be needing a rebuild, and I was just wondering if anyone has tried any of these products and what your experience is with them.
First.....B&M Trick Shift Trans Fluid
most popular high performance fluid on the street also! Not an additive, this is the best performance ATF available! A scientific blend of foam inhibitors, pressure agents and shift modifiers that will provide extended transmission life and drastically improved shift feel. Trick Shift is the easiest way to measurably improve the transmission performance of your vehicle. Trick Shift works with all automatic transmissions* when a firmer shift is desired. 'Pour in Performance' is not just a catchy phrase - it's reality! It can be mixed with stock-type transmission fluids, however to attain maximum improvement you should use Trick Shift exclusively. Ideal for towing, light trucks and RV applications as well as racing. *Not recommended for electronic controlled transmissions.
Does this stuff actually work?? Is it worth the $6 a quart?? I was planning on getting a shift kit installed when i get the trans rebuilt, but if this would help any might as well get this too...Maybe also could be a short term solution to my crappy shifting til i get $$ for a rebuild....
The other product they listed sounded interesting to me but i wasnt really sure what exactly it does or if i need it...lol but anyway here it is too....
TH-700 R4 Kickdown Kit
This valve prevents a forced part throttle kickdown from fourth to third gear, and allows cruising at higher speeds in overdrive. The transmission will only kick down from fourth to third at 3/4 throttle.
Re: A few misc. transmission performance questions...... (Wheelman)
All that is is high performance ATF. Not gonna do a thing for you if you are needing a rebuild. Only product that might help the tranny last a little longer would be lube control ATF additive and even that is doubtful.
Also, the trickshift comes in regular and synthetic. For ATF I would always recommend going with a sythetic. Trannys are killed by bad fluid, ATF fails due to heat. Synthetics are better at handling heat than regular oils, that's why I recommend them. For my 60K mile trans service, I used Mobil1.
Vette transmissions all should have the kickdown kit as a factory item. This is mostly aimed at the f-bodys.
Talk to a tranny shop about lubecontrol. Usually you can find it at tranny shops and sometimes NAPA. NAPA might have to order it though. To the best of my knowledge lubecontrol is a friction modifier that will help the clutchpack become stickier and prevent slipping. This will help the tranny go until it really can't function properly anymore.
