TPIS headers have arrived, what grinder tool do I need???
I'm waiting for the UPS man this morning to sign for my headers. I have the three day weekend to do the job and would really like to finish up so I can make the Corveette day at Capitol Raceway on the 7th.
Here's my problem/question for those who have done it. I know that I need to notch the frame crossmember on the right side to get clearance. I have a full dremel set but that's pretty pathetic at big grindng tasks, even on aluminum. I also have a half inch drill with no grinding attachments. I don't have much room in my garage and had a tough time cutting off nuts on a pair of shocks for my Honda using the dremel.
Would grinding wheels for the half inch drill work for this, or do I need to go to Home Depot and get the real thing, a grinder/polisher with flex shaft and all the goodies?

Dayum, there's no Harbor Freight store in my area, and I can't wait for a web order because I might miss the weekend. But that tool is on sale at $18.49 right now. That's a bitch.

Sounds like that method is doable. And if not then I can go buy a grinder. I'll probably only get my car a foot and a half off the floor with what I have.

You don't need to cut anything.. I just installed mine this spring. All you have to do is unbolt the passenger side diagonal member..
Two bolts on the side of the main frame, one bolt on the bottom of the engine mount, and two bolts on the front cross member. The diagonal brace drops right out and you slip the headers in..
NO NEED TO CUT.. IM me if you need a better description

I see the brace you are talking about. Thanks.
I am still sitting here after noon and the guy hasn't come yet, so I have no instruction sheet to look at. Looks like a wasted day, won't get to work. Oh well, almost as good as a day fishing.
Your Ruby is looking sweet! I think I saw your car at Carlisle, but you weren't around. Bring it to the next Grand Canyon cruise and we'll blow those C5s away.

:iagree:
No cutting on mine either. Although getting the proper sequence of install for right side header & the diag. brace is important. I found, remove brace, slip header in from underneath, don't bolt to head yet, have someone hold or tie up there, now re-install diag. brace. Otherwise the header will block the bolts that go into the side of the frame. Now bolt the header up to the heads.

Thanks for the compliment on the car, it's finally coming together the way I want it to - - Finally..
It wasn't my car @ carlisle. I actually missed it this year because of somethings that came up at work that I needed to take care of.. It was too bad cause the weather was so nice..
I will make sure I bring the C4 to most of the future events, they are always out numbered by the darn C5's
take care and good luck with the header install, your going to love they way the sound and perform
