I am installing a NOS 5151 kit on a heavely modified 383 L98. If I use the jets with the kit for the 100 or 150 shot will I need to retard the timing?.

I would think a 150 shot would need something. I'm at -4 degrees with my 150 shot and put down 147 hp over stock.im using a tnt 150 shot on my stock motor no timing retard at all
Thats just it, I have a 383 with forged pistons at 10:1 compression. I plan on trying the 100 shot and then moving up to 150 if all works well. I think I better call NOS to get the low down on whats best though.
For a 100 shot I would use my digital 6 and pull 2 degrees of timing out, assuming it is in good tune. For the 150 I would pull 4-5 out.....I don't like rebuilding motors though.
All depends on how much timing you normally run in the engine NA. If you do not run a lot of timing, then you could probably just run the 150 without taking any out.
What if you're squirting 150 hp with a base timing by the book? (6 degrees)

Explorewell NOS recommends 2 deg retard for every 50 HP.
i have sorayed a 150 shot at 0-4-6-10 deg base timing with the better recommended ESC. The NPH was the same at all levels, which means if it was detoniating it didn't get worse or better at the different timing. But just to be safe i run it at 4 deg base.

Well I have an older engine and the base timing is 8* or 12* depending on engine combo. I run mine base at 12* and left it there at a 125 shot. No detonation problems at all. If I went with the 150 shot I would let 2* out and be at 10* initial. :yesnod:
how are you guys retarding your timing msd digital 6? what if i have a 6al is there anything that hooks up to it?that will only retard when the nitrous is been sprayed?
I'm using the Dig6. There is a pink wire that leads to the downstream solenoid and activates the retard when the solenoid is activated. With the 6al, I'm not sure of the hookup. I don't think there is one.
I run a MSD-6AL and added a MSD 8982 to retard the timing on the juice.

looked it up a msd cant find part number http://www.msdignition.com/ what is it exactly whats it do how do you hook it up I run a MSD-6AL and added a MSD 8982 to retard the timing on the juice.
thanx for the help chris
If you go to Products-Automotive-Timing Controls- Start/Retard control it will take you to the page on the MSD site. Here is the direct link... http://www.msdignition.com/tc_7.htm
Easy to setup as you just swap a couple wires with the 6AL, hook power and ground to it, and it has a one wire activation. I just zip tied it to the top of my MSD 6AL box.
