What exactly are the "pre-cats"?
Like the heading says, what are the pre cats and where are they located?

Pre cats are actual cats...additions to the main shared cat. They are midway between the main cat and exhaust manifold...
This thread may help...

Ok, I read that thread and I still don't quite get it.
Let's take this one step at a time. There is an exhaust exhaust manifold for each bank. Then on each bank there is this thing called a "precat". Following that for each bank, there is a main or regular catalytic converter. Following that right next to each other under the car is a "resonator". After that for each bank, down at the very end of the exhaust system is the muffler.
So on each bank there are 4 individual items, right? A pre cat, a cat a resonator and a muffler?

There is no resonator on L98, only LT1/4
there are no precats on the LT1/4, only 2 main cats because you have a true dual system

L98s have 2 pre-cats, 1 main cat, and 2 mufflers
LT1/4s have 2 main cats, 1 center resonator, and 2 mufflers

Ok, that's what I wanted to know. I couldn't find any "pre-cats" on my LT1 and wondered where they were.
Thanks much people for your help.
