Re: Found 1985 Hood Struts for $16 (Southern Comfort)
My 85 still has the scissor, but the gas shocks push the hood up higher than the scissor engagement point so I have to push the scissor forward to make sure it would catch if the hood every did try to come down.
What I am saying is the these shocks push the hood "up" as far as the extended scissor mechanism will allow it to travel.
Larry, if you do go with the gas charged hood support, you may find you have too much lift. When they first went to the gas charged supports they eliminated the assist cylinder on the opposite side. So if you get the gas charged support, it will mount on the driver's side (which will also be more convienient for you scissor guys) and you will remove the assist rod near the passenger side hood hinge. for a paper I wrote a few years ago with some info on this.

be carful with that scissors....lol mine collapsed and the hood fell on my head. I replaced it with the upgrade strut and I still have the two little ones...(dead) I wonder if it would help at all to replace those too....for 17 bucks its maybe worth a shot.

With scissor replacement, does you hood go up easy from flat to 45 degrees?
I guarantee you that from 45 degrees to the top takes almost no effort.
Oh yes ....the strut on the drivers side makes it effortless..But I was thinking the other two would help save the big one some effort. And me of course :yesnod:

1989 Hood Strut - Mighty Lift, Coupe Autozone
Part # A95250 $60
I did this too about a month or 2 ago. Noticeable difference from +45*. What I think we are all hoping for, is a hood that 'pops' open. It's my understanding that adjusting the springs at the hood latch will do this. Haven't done it yet 'cuz I don't have a wrench big enough. Anyone know how big that dang adjusting nut is? It's huge!
By the way, I got my struts at Carquest or Napa for $15 each.
