My 85 hood struts gave/give NO assist when opening the hood.
Went to Autozone and found them for $16.99 each, but they had to be ordered, the last time I remembered looking up a price I thought they were @ $90 each.
They came in to today so I'll install them tonight. :smash:
Great find, I priced them from GM too and remember them being really expensive. A lot of their parts seem to be ridiculously marked up, I priced some side yokes for my Dana 44 from GM they were over $300 each, yesterday a local shop charged me $170 each and they are Spicer, same as OEM. Makes you wonder where all the extra markup goes...
good news...have you the parts numbers? could you post them or IM them to me?

Yeah the angle of he hood closed is too much for the hood lifts to overcome, but if we upgraded to the gas lift support like the later years I could see it being a lot easier.
Could someone post a pic of these things? I am blown away...I didn't even know they were supposed to be there. I can't see a mounting where they were removed. Maybe I need mounts too?
I checked out larrys hood with the new supports a few hours ago and have to say its a big impovement (mine are shot).
redvette1986, they are located right next to the hood hinges (inboard of the headlights) they look like small shock absorbers about 6 inches long.
