Ok, I wanna do this (maybe this weekend), but I'm not sure if my vise will be big enough to follow the tech tip. What size spread do I need to accommodate the shaft, u/j, and sockets as prescribed in the tip? Anyone done it another way (banging withwood blocks or sumpin')? :smash:
I know my vise is a good size and it wouldn't open up far enough. An arbor press will work well if they are not siezed. Also a pipe clamp works very well (again unless it's siezed)
I just replaced the u-joints on my passenger side half shaf. One came out easily with the press, the other was siezed. I bent a 3/4 inch pipe clamp!!! I eventually ended up using a small micro precision press (a sledgehammer) to drive the old u-joint out.
Hey Guys,
Make sure to purchase genuine Spicer Joints that are coated specifically for use in aluminum drive shafts – they a far less likely to corrode and become imposable to remove without damage to the aluminum bore. A good counter guy at a Spicer retailer should know what you’re asking for.

Well, Spicer's is what I was hoping to use. Any idea on price, and where to get them?

Six states on 60th and Columbia.Spicer 5-800x for the half shafts and 5-786x for the driveline.. Theys are the best of the best and they are made for aluminium drivelines for corrosion protection....$102
For the complete set, 2 for the driveline and 4 for the half shafts. Call and make sure they are in stock. They are a Spicer vendor. And the good news is they will press them in for free.
