Get a 160 stat, worked great in other cars I've had, why not in the Vette too? It's going to run the same either way because your car will still be like 200 the whole time.
The sweet spot for coolant temps where best motor performance meets minimal wear on the rings and cylinder walls is 180 to about 194.
There was a study done on this once and a line chart was drawn and that temp range (coolant) is where the two lines for lower wear and best power intersected. Wear was very slighly lower at higher temps but the performance penalty began to increase.
I have a 160 now with a thermomaster chip (Hypertech). I was just told that the motor will not burn off the moisture and that the motor needs to run hotter or it will put twice the wear on the engine. I do not drive it in the winter so no problems with heat, just worried about putting more wear than needed on the motor. :( its a 1990 L98

:iagree: I had my stock 195 changed to a 160 when I put the low temp fan switch in 3 months ago. Earlier this week, I changed the 160 to a 180 t-stat, and it will stay that way from now on. My subjective take on performance is still the same, and actual temps are still nice & low compared to what they were several months ago  Since I do some short-stint winter driving, etc. I didn't want unnecessary engine wear and long warm-ups to op temps posing a problem in the long term.

Here's the chart and the appropriate reference to the site where it is featured:
even with 160 stat it still runs over 180 most of the time anyway!!!!and i have a becool rad on highway it runs just under 180 177 179 once you stop 180s so it doesnt matter which one you are using in your lt1s they run hot enuff to get rid of condensation in my opinion take it easy in here :boxing :leaving:
It's going to be 110 degrees today - actually it's been over 100 degrees all but 3 days since the beginning of April. Come drive here for a while and you won't worry about any condensation :lolg:
