There is an item on ebay that is a valve that you put onto your exhaust pipes. When you flip a switch it closes the back of the valve and opens a hole in the bottom. This then allows it to bypass the mufflers and allow straight exhaust. I know someone who has a 2000 C5 and it was supposed to add 20 hp to his. You are supposed to be able to put it infront of the cat converter also. I was wondering if anyone has tried this and how much horsepower it gave them. I have an 85 L98.
Thanks
Eric
These are electric cutouts operated from inside the car. They utilize a standard manual cutout that has a motor operated butterfly that opens and closes. here is the item no. 2430836029.
Most people install them for sound plesure, some people use them for a little bit of extra horsepower at the track. Any performance benefit will depend on where you put it, remember some backpressure is a good thing.
Most people I know who use them are on Z-28's. I've seen people with the cutout place just forward of the muffler pick up 10 hp on a dyno. I've also seen a guy with his cutout placed right where the cat used to be and he picked up nothing.
So in short if you put it too far forward you're not gonna do any good and it's gonna be REALLY loud.
i got em on my 95. got em right after the manifolds. i can tell it revs a little faster. dont know about any hp gains tho. throws flames and makes lots of noise. and my car is all stock. i can't emphasise how loud that it makes it tho. i have to be careful not to use them in town. car alarms and police dont like them. lots and lots of fun tho. any ricers that throw revs at me get a good solid earful at 5k and then they dont want no more. :reddevil
