96 Rear axle bearing replacement help requested

Axle nut=3/4" impact didn't touch it=6 foot piece of pipe on 3/4" breaker bar did the trick !!
Torx bolts=1/2" impact didn't touch it=16 inch pipe on a 1/2" breaker bar did the trick !!
Lube the splines with anti-seize and retorque close to 200lbs.
I did mine without removing half shaft or rotating half shaft to get to torx bolts.
If your bearings are real bad your u-joints may have taken a beating also.
So it might be worth your effort to pull half shafts to take a good look at your u-joints and have an easier time removing torx bolts.
Be sure to get the rear up as high as you can so you get get some leverage and working room.
:smash:
P.S. The reason i torqued to 200 lbs is beacause my bearing made more noise than there was play. I read a write up stating that more torque on the axle nut would prevent creaking of the splines, that and coating them with anti-seize.
My car had new bearings installed just prior to my purchase and had a creak from day one. These were installed by G.M. using ther torque numbers and dry splines  :smash:
Good Luck
