I read some topics back that a bunch of corvette owners bought camber braces. I would like to know if the brace did any thing to stiffen the frame? I have a roadster and I'm looking to see if the camber brace stopped any of the frame twist. I don't race the car so I don't need a brace on the setting of the front end. I have replaced any loose parts on my Rubby, with some success. I would like to know about your experiences with the new brace. :auto:
I drive my car at an angle in an attempt to save my lower air dam to get into my driveway and if I cut it real tight I leave a wheel off the ground with the brace installed. I don't recall ever doing that without it. I like mine.
There are a few people who don't have them who will question their value. On the other hand everybody who has one or has driven a car with one seems to like the results. Definitely made the car feel tighter. Not like it ever really handled badly, it's hard to know imagine how much difference it can make until you install it.
It ties the upper a-arms together improving the handling. I think it has improve my times at autoxing. I highly recommend getting one if you want to improve the handling.
From R-D's web site: "By effectively boxing the front end this way, we have removed any flexing of the control arm mounting horns. By doing this, the front end angles that you set during alignments will stay at those angles when corning the car and help maintain a more constant contact patch of the tire to the ground. With the end result being higher speed into the corner, faster out of it, with quicker lap times and more security on the open road."
Mine was extremely easy, however I can't speak for all of them. I bought the electric water pump version which actually comes in 3 parts, making installation a breeze.
Installation was somewhat easy for me (I work slow). Even though I was careful, I still broke off the temp sensor off the fromt of the waterpump, so be careful. The sensor was less than $10 to replace. I really haven't noticed that much of a difference in the driving feel as of yet. My car was tight before and only noticed wheel shimmy or chassis flex at the track in bumpy turns, and I haven't been back since it was installed...
I just recently put mine on and the vette is without a doubt tighter. Yesterday I had a 4 wheel alignment done and had everything set to the "advanced street" specs. http://forums.corvetteforum.com/zerothread?id=171694 So far I love this combo.
Mine went on easy after I made a tool to reach the belt tensioner. I have an L98. I feel a difference in the steering on bumpy or choppy roads. Bump steer is almost gone with the camber brace.
