I presume the fuel rail has to come off, there is 4 bolts that i can see! there are 2 of them that are hard to get it!! do i just have to take the fuel rail off!!
what are some other things i can do instead of taking these off? if you look from yesterday i posted a thread telling the signs that i have, and i think it is a bad injector!!
what a pain in the rear?
is it alot of work to do the injector's, please help! i guess instead of becoming a police officer, i should of became a mechanic. i like to get my hands dirty, but it is frustrating when you don't know exactly what 2 do?
Re: How do I change the injectors??? (88BlackZ-51)
Valve covers have to come off to get to the lower runner bolts. Runners have to come off (for the most part if you don't have all the proper tools) to get to the fuel rail bolts. I did not have any problems with removing my cold start valve. On my 85 I had to loosen the cold start valve at the fuel rail end by the fire wall in order to get to the drivers side runner bolt in back. Definitley oil your o rings on the injectors, and you can reuse the clips that hold the injectors in place. The GM shop manual will come in handy if you have it. Just look closely at how the clips lock and unlock, and you won't damage any of them. I too was intimidated by this task, but once I got going it was okay. Don't worry if you have to use a lot of force to get the fuel rail off. My injectors were so stuck to the intake manifold that one of them left the bottom o ring and plastic piece around the pintle lodged in it! I had to dig it out, which I did successfully. Since my plenum runner gaskets were somewhat new due to a recent plenum port, I reused them with no problems thus far. But getting new ones is good advice. Might want to port your plenum now since it is off if you can. If you get stuck just post back on the forum, we'll help ya. Good luck :seeya :steering:
