I have a buddy that would like to put an 94 corvette LT1 into and older C3. What he would like to know, is there a way to decompute the LT1 and have it set up like an older 350 with the older style Distributer. If you know of any internet links that may help out that would be great also.. Thanks guys..
I think I saw an article where GM performance parts had an intake manifold for a carburetor for the LT1. It's been several years ago that I saw this. The manifold may have the hole for a regular distrubutor.
I probablyl still have the magazine at home somewhere. But, don't know where it is.
GM sells a carb intake for both the LT1 and the LT4. Since you are doing away with the fuel injection you are doing away with the computer control which means the opti won't work. So if you wanted to do computer control you would have to go with an aftermarket crank trigger type setup.
If you wanted to completely ditch the electronics the LT1 carb intake does have a provision for a distributor. In this case you can set it up just like any other small block. It would take a different timing cover if you weren't going to use the opti, but I don't think it would be a major deal there. You might have to fabricate something. If you used an electric water pump (would probably be a tight fit in a C3) you could eliminate the need for the water pump drive through the timing cover as well. In this case you might could just use any old SBC timing cover, but I'm not sure if the bolt pattern is the same.
That's a sweet looking motor but it's not an LT1. The LT1 has a dry intake meaning no coolant flows through it. Coolant certainly flows through this one.
