To see if your ECM is going and staying in closed loop, use the method on my site (link in my sig. below). If all is ok then both the O2 sensor and the coolant temp sensor are fine.
does an 85 have one or two O2 sensors? i see one on the drivers side manifold plenty fine, but I haven't looked for the other one. I had my mechanic replace one (i think there is only one) and ever since then i've gotten atrocious gas mileage and part-throttle problems. maybe he dropped it...
My 89 L98 has one oxygen sensor and this is located on the drivers side of the exhaust manifold. The O2 sensor should be changed out at 40000 miles for best performance. Did your mechanic replace the sensor with a GM part? I have tried aftermarket parts for emissions and have not had good luck with them. My best results have been when using OEM parts.
