HELP! Removable top squeaks/rattles bad!
Ok my top has been sqeaking and rattling really bad lately? I think this may be common for these cars but not for sure. May be the brackets up front where it bolts in. Does anyone have suggestions on how to get rid of this or will have to live with it?

Mine never rattled but it did squeek. I took it off and put a thin coat of vaseline all around the contact points and on the bolt threads. That stopped my squeeks. Rattles seem like one of the bolts may just be loose.
Where is Mitchell IN? I use to hang around Angola.

Well I have some squeaks but they get flooded by the radio and the exhaust :nono: Im sure you've tried tightning the bolts but the Vaseline trick is new to me. I will try it for sure

MAD sells a 'Seal out Squeak for roof panels' #600-262 @ $12.99 for the set... added it to mine and noise gone, also used the 'Alignment doc' here in the forum to realign my top, that helped alot too..

Check out this procedure to align the top. I did it and it took care of all the squeaks and rattles (and one of the rain leaks).

I think that I would recommend if you follow that procedure to make absolutely sure that your car is on a level surface. If you align it while the car is crooked, it will stay crooked.
Make sure the original reason you couldn't get the thing on was not because the car was on an uneven surface.
The only reason I say this is because I once watched for a 1/2 hour while my friend fought with his top, only to find out the left rear tire was on a bump, so the car flexed enough to cause the top to not align right. We moved the car forward a foot and the top went right on.

My 84 used to rattle, and after months of trying to find it, it ended up being the rear bolts that hold the catch to the targa bar under the trim panel. They were loose, so it rattled.

Mine did the same thing. Turned out to be the brackets up front on the top, they were loose. So I took the top off and tightened them ... no more rattles or squeaks at all. :)
Took a 1200 mile trip last week and it sounded like a new car.
