Due to a mild mishap years ago (sideways impact with a curb) I now noticed when putting on my ZR1 wheels, that there's a significant difference between the amounts the wheels sit outward (and inward). One side sticks out beyond the fender while the other almost to the edge. Feeling this could only be because of the incident, the insurance is willing to pay for any straightening caused by the incident. Here's the problem. Frame shop can measue the excessive amount it's off center, but cannot find anything underneath that shows signs of stress, bent, or adjustablility. As if it came from the factory this way. He's waiting on a call back from the local dealership to hopefully get on GM's website to get certain measaurements, such as distance between pumpkin and frame rails, etc. It has been aligned twice (once after and again when I got new tires. No odd wearing and tracks fine).
Anybody seen places online that would have these stats that, to a mere mortal, would seem useless?
If I can't get it fixed, and the GS flares don't "hide" it sufficiently, who knows... :banghead:
Re: Calling on your browsing experiences (OneRedLT4)
There have been a couple of other threads about this problem recently. Cars that haven't been in an accident have had the same problem as yours. Seems like they're coming out of the factory this way, and people just don't notice it until later on.
Thanks, I'll search around some more for those threads. 1/8th inch per side (1/4" total) is to be max acceptable for "normal". Yet mine measures 5/8" total difference...a bit much. Thanks again.
Re: Calling on your browsing experiences (OneRedLT4)
I have the same problem w/ my 87. I didn't notice it at first b/c when I bought the car one of the wheels was bigger than the other 3. It is the pass. rear that is tucked in farther than the driver side and the pass. side is where the bigger wheel was, so I never noticed it until I did a wheel change.
When I bought the poly bushings I figured it'll all get figured out when we put it back together. Wrong! It still looks lop-sided and I can't figure it out.
Re: Calling on your browsing experiences (War Machine)
Well, the verdict is in. I spent $126 to have the frame shop go, what I consider, above and beyond the call of duty, and confirm all specs are correct. Even stuff they never had info on, and got from GM. So, I'm stuck with a 5/8" screw-up somewhere, and now don't have the money for GS flares, which just might hide it a bit. Oh well. :U
