Default afr heads

I'm ordering my heads today, but just curious, whats the difference between the 68cc and the 74 cc chambers?

That is the size of the chamber. That and the gasket and pistons give you your compression. You should have them do the math for you that way they can mill them down for you and correct the intake angle as well. Seeing you are going with the AFR heads you are wanting perfomance. Compression is free hp. I would have it as close to 10-75 11-1. That is if you want to run super unleaded.. :)

So which chamber size would be better to run at that kind of compression? I do want to run at a higher compression, but still want it to be running on pump gas. The highest octane at the pump here is 91.

If your 85 is the same as mine, you;ll want to have them mill the heads for a 60cc chamber. That and a .029 head gasket will give you about 10.5:1 compression which should work with 91 octane. If you don't mind pushing things a bit, have them mill it to a 58cc chamber and use a .026 gasket and you'll be just shy of 11:1.

Well you can pick either head, if you havent bought the pistons yet for the 383. I would do the 68cc and then pick a piston to give something in the 10-10.5 range.

Thats what i'm going to do anyway.

Make sure they don't overlook the provisions for the coolant sensors(they forgot on mine and I had to send 'em back), that it is L98 corvette plug angle, and get them bare. Have a builder you trust check the seats and assemble with quality parts of your choice. I needed to switch to perimeter bolt V/C's also. Get an old pair of perimeter bolt V/C's from a junkyard($10.00 pair) for a sbc and cut the tops off them. Make the cut so that when installed on head, the poly locks are revealed but the pushrod oil cup on the RR is hooded under the top of the v/c. Why? Because AFR makes their heads with a very shallow trough :mad
between the springs and the edge/lip of the head. So when doing running method of adjusting valves, oil doesn't come cascading all over the place and the RR's aren't splattering oil droplets everywhere. Learned that the hard way :cry
Goodluck and pull up a chair, will be awhile if AFR making them. Let us know how they perform for ya
