Go to a pool supply store and buy some of this stuff for 5 bucks a tube.

Ecklers sells it as GM approved weatherstrip dressing for $32 an ounce.

My guess is that the weather sripping that is exposed to air/wather/sun really gets damaged over time and especialy the ones that are under frequent stress... like the door weather stripping.

I'm honneslty wondering if Armor all or some type of silicone protectant that we apply on the inside of the car and the wheel would be good for the weather stripping.. maybe it would make it last longer ??
Ultraviolet radiation is the #1 killer. Most other vehicles don't have their seals exposed as much as vettes do.

Don't use anything with petroleum distillates to condition the seals. PD's will dry out the rubber/vinyl even quicker than UV.

:iagree: There are differing brands obviously, but pool shops sell 'silicone grease' - large tubes very cheap WHICH incidentally; is the SAME stuff as auto shops sell in tiny tubes at BIG prices, as Thermo grease for insulating spark plugs leads etc!!

Typical of repackaging things and adding huge markups (Same goes by the way especially with pool products - 'Buffer' (@$10-$15AU) is JUST 'Bi-Carbonate of Soda (couple of bucks per box at supermarkets!!!) :reddevil

Weather stripping....aaarrrrr!!!! I hate the C4 for it. That stuff is SO HOT DAM expensive!!! It's a rip off! I replaced the inner and outer window strips (where your arm rest out the window) and the A pillar seal. Dude, all this was shot at 12yr old and 70K. This car has been garaged it's whole life!! I have an 84 Supra that NEVER saw a garage in it's life, and has 200K on it and the weather stripping is better than all the corvette's...SAD.
1 for the Japs. -1 for the US. :chevy ...it sux.

FORD seals are likewise good, although with similar vintage and a lot of sun exposure, they tend to have plastic fittings inside that go brittle and crumble :cry

Hey, I've got a good License plate frame idea... not I love Kelly or some crap... it should say:.... SHOULD OF BOUGHT TOYOTA. hehe.
Let's face it. Chevy sux. Heres what I base that statement on:
-my Vette:)
-my mom's 2001 Impala with 18K. The rear window trim is falling off and it came "missing" a Right Rear wheel well trim. HOW THE FUC can a NEW CAR be missing the trim!! we bought it NEW. and the Rear window trim falling off!!! WTF Chevy. oh, that's garaged too:) $25,000 for junk.
-My dad's 2002 S10 4x4 crew Cab- stalls. Door panles are coming off. When you roll the windows down the door panels FLEX out. OH, and they don't roll up when your going over 50MPH. that was bought NEW, and it has 15K on it. My parents are old farts. They work at a Hospital and School. they are suburbia stereotype white people that are geeks and their cars are falling apart. SO it's not them. They take it to the GM dealer for EVERYTHING. They don't drive over 60MPH period.
-My brother's 2001 WS6 Trans AM: Interior squaks and rattles. 20K. General GM crap interior.
Well folks..... That's my reasoning. My friends and me RAG!! I mean BEAT the living **** OUT of our Toyota's. My friend off road/ bajas his Tacoma at like 60MPH and has "all 4 wheels off the ground" and generally drives it like he's a maniac. NO problems period! however my dad's truck never SAW the grass out front of their country club house and has more problems.... right. I'd hate to see if it did get beat on like the toyota!!!! LOL. OH, for you guys that didn't see gm's "ROAD TO REDEMPTION" Ad... you need to read it. Look it up. GM basically admits they made junk in the 80's, and are trying to catch up to the competition. Look it up. There is no Argument. GM HAS A AD OUT THAT ADMITS THEY MADE JUNK. There is no arguing...they admitted it!!!!!

To all of you disgruntled Corvette owners:

I'll kindly pay $100 (Up to $1000 for a really GOOD one!) for any corvette that you are unhappy with! (Freight to Australia and customs duty must be paid by yourselves tho)

I anticipate your favourable responses to my most generous offer!! :D

I say all this in anger only. When i'm happy at my car.... i'm happy. When i'm pissed i'm pissed. But there is no denying the "road to redemption" Ad GM has out. That's a fact. If you like your Vette.... you like it.. if not...ya don't. I'm just saying that for me (and family) GM hasn't done to well.

Hey dude; I FULLY understand!
When I'm inside my dash mucking around with a miriad of wires and stuff; Mines the biggest piece of SHI* around, but when I'm driving it, the V8 blurbing along with EVERYONE looking...it's the BEST damned thing on 4 wheels! It's the only car I've ever had that I REALLY like!

...Haven't had anyone knocking down my door yet re: my purchase offer either!! :cry :smash:

GM does have certain quality issue's, rattles inside the car, weather stripping... and every one knows that there 4cyl cars suck...

BUT

take any GM Truck with a V8 and it will beet any other truck company out there and will last twice has long.

There is a reason why GM trucks keep there value so much better then ford or Dodge or any other import truck, its the same reason why 4cyl Honda's keep there value better then any other 4cyl car.

There are the best out there!

Every company has good points and bad points, they can't be good in every thing they do.

I guess our weather stripping sucks and our inner doors suck and our rattles are annoying.

I say this!

If you can afford a vette I'm sure you can spend a few bucks on weather stripping, and if you love your car you'll fix the doors and maintain the car.
The rattles?.... well that's a small price to pay to be driving one of the fastest car on the street and a small price to pay for making every one out there jealous.

I'll agree GM trucks kick butt... the early 90's, and old full size blazers. But, rattles and stuff.... can't deal with it. As for affording it... I can't. Even If i could... I won't. As for making others jelous... that's not my goal in life...not even close. When i'm crusing in my Supra or my soon 4runner up on 33's... i won't be jelous of any vette. Been there got the empty bank account to show for it. I want a car/truck that makes me happy. Fuc everyone else. I think the hoe(s) sitting in the car with you is a more effective way to make some old bastard jelous rather than some leaky squeaky car. See, I can fit 3 to 4 hoes in a 4runner. i can only fit 1 in a vette, and her Coach leather purse is gonna get wet b/c it leaks. You aint gonna get no nookie if your car is leaking and ruined her Coach purse.. (true story from July this summer). She wasn't happy about that. I'm outa the vette world very soon. I'll check them out online, and at car shows and buy a few model vettes.... Enough for me.

I use the 3M dielectric grease for conditioning the weatherstipping and, as far as I can tell, that must be the stuff that it is treated with from the factory (it looks and feels like the stuff that was on my 02's weatherstripping when I bought it). After coating the w/s on my 96 coupe it appeared nearly new. Hopefully if I continue to keep it lubed I will never have to deal with the replacement cost...

Sorry to lose a vette owner, but personally speaking (Not that anyone asked) I didn't buy mine to impress ANYONE...I bought it because I like the way it looks (I love it) and as a small compensation to MYSELF for putting up with what can be an extremely stressful job; like you have no idea, so that at the end of a BAD shift, I can switch off on the drive home, with the roof off and remind myself that the whole world DOESN'T revolve around my job, employer (Govt) or our 'clients'...

YES; since owning it, I've had my depressed moments re: bits not being perfect, but then it can be a small price to pay for an escapism from one's world.

Yes; they can be an expensive thing to maintain, but hey; if you can afford FOUR "hoes" then I'd think they'd cost more than a seal or two AND the seals will last for more than 2 minutes!

As for your term "hoes" well, you obviously have no respect for women, so one would question their own integrity on more than just the car front...

Good luck with your 'persuits'

Refer to my other posting above somewhere; Dielectric grease is the SAME stuff as 'Silicon grease' that can be purchased from swimming pool shops, as someone else also mentioned, in larger quantities and at a fraction of the cost...Handy for future reference...

I'm off now to lube my seals!
