I would like to remove my air condition but I don't know if I have to put a replacement pully in its place or just a smaller serpentine belt. Can anyone help? thanks in advance. The car is a 90 that had the L98 but now has a 406.
On my 89 L98 I did remove all the A/C system and brackets. Along with the bracket went the tensioner. I took some string and laced it around the remaining pulleys and measured it, went to the parts store and asked for a belt......uh.........oh.....my memory sucks.........I think it was sixty some odd inches. The belt has it's length(in inches) as part of it's part # along with the number of ribs it has. Example, 63 inches and 6 ribs will be something like a 63OK6 or something like that. There is a chance you won't find a "perfect fit" belt and you will have to get creative trying to figure out where to make up the adjustment. Here is my set up
On the L98 you CAN eliminate the A/C and still turn the rest of the pulleys as there is just enough smog pump pulley angle over the water pump pulley.
Goodluck and let us know what you were able to fabricate.
If you have a LT1 engine, More Performance has a nifty AC delete bracket that mounts in place of the AC Compressor and has a pulley mounted on it to take its place. It just becomes a idler pulley and uses the standard serpentine belt.
