Cam change. Easy or hard
My plans are to eventually go with a big mouth base and large tube runners.
Depending on cost I might just put the cam in with new large tube runners and port the snot out of the stock base and plenum. What kind of real world improvement can I expect by doing this?
Which cam will work best for me? It seems like there are so many to chose from.
Thanks :steering:
One cam that comes to mind is the proven LPE/ACCEL 74211 cam with 211/219 duration @ .050 lift and .499/.525 lift with 1.5 rockers. Its a great cam that would improve your performance across the board. This can go in with no mods to your stock chip. I had one in a 383 LT1 with bone stock PCM tuning and it ran great. Others have used it on stock LT1s with very good results. Couple it to large tube runners and your ported base and you will be happy with it. An alternative cam would be the 74213 with one degree more timing on each event but with slightly less lift. Either cam will work fine with stock runners and base.
