What about those seeled battery that they put in off road trucks, they put them in the trucks because of the the bagging arround and they will never leak acid.

Since this is a corvette and that the suspension is hard has hell I would think a battery like this woudl be good..... I can't remember the name but I did see it on that TV show called "TRUCKS" on TNN.... I'm sure somebody knows what I'm talking about.

...which is what the optima is. It's marketed as "spillproof".

I bought a red top (dual terminal) fits nice with plenty of room for clearance for the top post. I also have been better at connecting it to the battery tender I have when it is in the garage

 Florida heat is a great place to test a battery's life.

Sorry, but Exide is K-Mart Crap! Along with Energizer, Ever Start, Diehard... get the picture? These companies take your battery, charge it and put their sticker on it, and sell it again. Or, yank out the guts, clean them off and put it in their case.:nonod:

Original GM or Interstate seems to be a good buy as they seem to last the longest...

I have a "Day Starter". My dealer tried to sell them and it has a 5 year "no pro rate" warr. If you can find a dealer, it's a damn good battery and you can't beat the warr.

Working for a Chevy dealer, you see EVERYTHING, and as soon as it gets hot out, the junk batteries come in like a swarm!
mmkay, for you and the others who are into it on Optima vs other batteries:

like most other stuff, there are only a few manufacturers of batteries these days, but many brand names / sellers. So saying that KMart makes a battery is not really true. They sell batteries made for them by others.

IMHO, You want batteries made by JOHNSON CONTROLS.

It might make some of these debates look silly, but let me list just who Johnson Controls makes batteries for:

Farm Fleet
Die-Hard (once again, since two years ago)
Equalizer
Costco/Kirkland
WalMart/Everstart (but I think JCI lost that contract, so maybe not any more)
Motorcraft
OPTIMA
Pep Boys/Prostart
Toyota/Truestart
AutoZone/Duralast
Mitsubishi
Mazda
Honda
Discount/advance Auto
Eveready
Energizer

Now, I am not saying that every battery Johnson Controls makes has the exact same cold cranking amps or reserve specs, these vary, of course.

One thing to know (and I encountered this too, with a Diehard purchased during the period of time when they dropped Johnson Controls as a supplier, big mistake) is that many other manufacturers (including oem Delco batteries (not the same as the ones you buy over the counter, btw)) have weak terminal anchors inside the batteries that fail, they were somewhat of a weak design compared to the internals of a Johnson controls battery, and what seems to aggravate the weak post issue, is over-tightening the terminal bolts. Johnson Controls addressed this weak link in side-post batteries, and have strengthened this area. Have this fail and it is hard to diagnose, seems like battery is not getting charged properly, car starts sometimes and others its completely dead; makes you start replacing all kinds of other things that are, in fact, just fine.

Another thing - You'd be suprised how much your climate affects what battery you should buy.

Some say that CCA's (cold cranking amps) are not that important except in cold climates where a quick boost is needed in the starting circuit. If the battery is not meant for extreme cold weather starting, then reserve capacity might actually be preferable over CCA's or CA's . In any event all the automotive batteries in Corvette's group size exceed the oem Delco (crappy) battery's CA's and CCA's. The oem Delco is, in so many words, barely adequate.

I should point out that aftermarket Delco batteries are much better than the oem version from the factory.

Just some data for you all to consider, from another vette owner.

Normal Usage,Car driver every week of several times a week--> Optima Red Top

Vette sits for weeks not driven or cranked--> Optima Yellow Top

Yellow Top Is their 'Deep Cycle' battery.

Optima is NOT a 'Dry Cell' battey.

They DO have gell electrolyte. Newer technology.
They are more resistant to sulfation, the thing that kills normal lead/acid batteries.
Spiral cell technology exposes more of the plate material to the electrolyte.

It's a LOT better idea and you deserve to have it.

Unless you want to cheap out there are no other choices.
Red Top if you drive your Vette.
Yellow Top if you admire your Vette more than you drive it.

Case Closed !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
:iagree:

I agree, my c4 only sees use on a limited basis and I needed a battery that could take the abuse of being used only on occasion and not have a problem. Thats why i have the Yellow top.. It has given me no problems in 2 years and it sees non use for months frequently

Unless I'm out in left field, again, Optima makes a battery without the top posts. Even though there is a slight chance of catching fire when voltage goes below zero (Optima reports), I'll probably go that route, too. However, my AC Delco super duper battery is doing fine (at least 4 years old), but I keep it in shape with my battery minder.
