Anyone have any idea of a realistic price to have the trans removed, syncros replaced and put back in? A new rebuilt trans complete is $2500 +/- and I was hoping it would be less as I need to get this done someday. I get a good grind if I powershift but have no other problems.
Thanks
You don't want to know the answer because when you hear the price someone is going to have to pick you up off the floor $$$$$$$$$$nth power! Two reputable rebuilders quoted me $2200 for the labor PLUS the cost of the ZF parts plus shipping and crating. Try $1700 for a bearing set alone. Parts are ONLY available from the ZF rep. The ZF people want $4500 for a rebuild. All rebuilds are exchange. If you want your own transmission back, add $500. This does not cover removal and installation labor. It'll probably cost you $3500+.   Been there, done that.
I was looking at these guys to do it if I need too. Since I'm moving to Florida anyway, this would save me the freight. If we are talking over $2,000, I'll just pop in a new one. http://www.whiteracingproducts.com/home
FYI Dr ZF and White motors are two of the sources I contacted when I cited my quotes. The third is the the licensed U.S. ZF disrributor, Rochester Motorsports. :smash: :smash:
I should have added that even a thirty mechanic like myself would not tackle a ZF because of its design. The gears are shrink fit onto the main shaft. I'd go broke buying the furnace and freezing equipment needed to do the job right.
