HI GUYS,
yesterday i hit a giant pot hole with my 88 vett, bent my 17" oem front right rim.
does anyone know where i can get a new one. all the regular corvette part dealers only sell them in sets.
also it seems they are rights and lefts. how do you tell, are there numers on the wheels.
thanks much,
bill
Well, you can tell by the direction of the blades on the wheels.
Thinks about if for a minute.... if the blades are leaning on one side... lets say on the left side of the car and then you take the wheel and put it on the right side of the car the blades will be facing the other way.
If you only want 1 wheel and I'm guessing that the ones you have on the car are a bit scratched and have minor dimange "a bit like mine" :)
I think you should call every scrap ward in your region to find a wheel and have it shipped to you.
I'm sure you'll find one if you search hard and long enough, if not... order two of them and keep the other ones has a replacement in case you hit another pot hole.
Most can be fixed - Check under "Wheels" in the Yellow Pages. New is long out of production and/or if it's a 35th Anniversary, repair may be the only way. If the shop is good, it will look better than the other three so you might want to have those refinished too. Another option is to work out an exchange; you'll take a hit on the damaged one, but get 4 reconditioned wheels at a lower price than buying them outright.
I have a spare LHS wheel.....but you need a RHS. Suggest you go to Ebay and look under 88 -89 corvette wheels. That is where I got the spare in my basement (long story). You should be able to get one in good shape in the $75 to $100 range.
This place - http://www.aaarims.com - shows $248 exchange per wheel - probably more since yours is dinged up. Still think you should try to have it repaired.
I actually had my 1988 wheels sold 3 times !! but UPS from NY to CA was $150. then another guy in vancover canada wanted them, but $200 for international shipping!!! so every deal got killed by UPS.
this guy is in NY, and so am I. so the shipping is only $50 for the set.
we'll see what happens.
they don't sell one wheel, last time I checked (used to live about 3 miles from them) they want $200 each. With that price I rather pay a little more and get the GS or ZR1 rims
