Default My Monster 1000HP Buildup

O.k. I've sparked the interest and condescention of a few of you, so I'm coming to all of you openly. I am serious about doing this over the long haul. Currently I have 15k to work with, and I'm still another season away from starting...but it WILL happen and now's the time to do the research.

Here's my FIRST draft on parts. add it all up and it comes to $30k

Mcleod clutch+flywheel $1500
Custom Headers $1500-$2000
Accel Gen VI DFI $2500-$3000
Crank $900
Dart Block $2100
Rotating kit $2000-$3000
Valve train $2500
AFR Heads $1500
Cryo'ing driveline $700-$1000
U-joints $400 ??? Don't know for sure
Drive shaft loop $???
Blower Cog drive setup $1000
Intercooler/injection $1500
Wheels and tires $2000
Spal Fans $???
Radiator $800
Rollbar $350
Distributor $350
Waterpump $250
F1-R blower $3399
Fuel Injectors $400-$800
Racing harnesses $???
Brakes $1500 (includes MS and Slave)
Fire extinguisher $100
Another Walbro pump $250 (w/ additional lines)

O.k. if you feel I'm missing something, please fill in the blanks or correct me on pricing, or suggest something I'm forgetting (I know I am)

Oh, and check my current list of mods before suggesting something that's not on this list that I may already have.

Thanks

I would say to make 1000hp you better add at least another $1000-$1500 to that AFR Head price.

Do you need a crank and a rotational assembly?
How about machine work?

Add at 20% engineering enhancement for all the little things that you missed :yesnod:

Custom SC bracketry with cog setup definately add a little more. I'm not sure the rotating kit will cost you that much, I had just my bottom end rebuilt for 1000 hp with custom pistons and fully foreged everything and it was only around 4000-5000 using my current block.

you over estimated on a lot of it, but it'll be nice when you come in under your estimate.

I thought the same, but that's not what I was told. Then again, we were kicking around different ideas so I'll have to re-inquire.

even cheaper way to make 1000hp.

I was thinking about this also, but I'd have to lower the compression to 2.5:1 :D

I haven't figured machine work into the pricing, just parts for now. I did list the rotating kit= ~$3,000

I only used this price as a comparison. I wouldn't doubt that the pulleys and everything will cost a bit more. thanks

On the parts I did, but I know it will cost more.

We are a dealer for AFR and I can tell you that $1500 won't cover a set of 100% CNC competition ready heads. A pair of their most powerful 23* 215cc raised runner heads will run over $3000. Better yet go to some SB2 18 degree splayed valve heads if you really want to make that 1000hp mark. But that is going to require custom headers, intakes are available but would need some custom work for installing fuel injector bungs and rails.

LJ Stevens is running 1000Hp using a cog driven Vortec YS Trim blower that is intercoolef with a LARGE spearco custom unit. And LJ is still using his highly massaged LT1 heads and a LT1 block. Nothing real fancy. Of course there has been extensive machine work and a 4340 forged steel rotating assembly. So it goes to show you that it can be done without exotic and expensive pieces, although I am sure that he has spent lots of cash on port work of the heads he has.

Here is his website if you want to take a look see:

This link is awesome! Thanks TJ

P.S. I just got off the line with an engine builder I've been talking with about this and he agrees that the heads I want for the power output are going to be more expesive.

He is faxing me a build sheet for the motor we talked about. I'll let you know which heads he lists.

Drive shaft safety loop - $179 @ http://www.zfdoc.com/c4SafetyLoop.htm

I would skip the AFR heads...I know I'll get flamed for this. My machinist won't touch them with a 10-foot pole. Has too many QA problems and needs to do too much work to them to make them work.

He uses Brodix heads almost exclusively. We have a set of 227CC Track1X's flowing 305 CFM through the intake for my 427 SBC. Complete with CNC work they ran us $2200.

He took a set of AFR 227's off another 427 SBC (since they were leaking air and other issues) and bolted the Brodix heads on and is making 795 FWHP NA. They are in a LOWWWW 9-sec drag car.

He says you'll save $300-$400 in purchasing AFR's, but you'll spend $600 to make them work.

I know there are a lot of people on this forum that use AFR's and love them, but I thought you should know the other side of the coin as well.

You are WAY low on the wheels/tires combo if you are looking at anything but stock units. CCW's are $1800/set for the wheels alone, the cheapest I found by 50% over anyone else making 3-piece forged wheels.

We spent $1800 on a complete Crower forged rotating kit - balanced from Crower.

You didn't say what size the motor will be, but World Products makes a good big-cube ready block with raised cam for about the same price as the Dart block. http://www.worldcastings.com/docs/03...otownblock.pdf Go to page 2 for the race block.... the 084130 block is $1939.99 at Jegs.

The DFI figure on the high side. I talked to a few places, and I got it quoted for around $3200 with custom wiring harness to just plug into the harness in the car. Saves the hassle of butchering your harness and screwing something up.

Looks like fun. I think you are in the ballpark on the price. When mine is done...with machine work...I will have spent close to $18k. That's getting parts at cost.

It is a slippery slope you are climbing. When is enough not enough???

When there is more to be had!!!!

I don't even have the motor finished yet and am already thinking about the first rebuild/freshening session with lower compression pistons, new cam and a S/C with intercooler.

Isn't insanity great?
