Thanks
Custom SC bracketry with cog setup definately add a little more. I'm not sure the rotating kit will cost you that much, I had just my bottom end rebuilt for 1000 hp with custom pistons and fully foreged everything and it was only around 4000-5000 using my current block.

How about machine work?

LJ Stevens is running 1000Hp using a cog driven Vortec YS Trim blower that is intercoolef with a LARGE spearco custom unit. And LJ is still using his highly massaged LT1 heads and a LT1 block. Nothing real fancy. Of course there has been extensive machine work and a 4340 forged steel rotating assembly. So it goes to show you that it can be done without exotic and expensive pieces, although I am sure that he has spent lots of cash on port work of the heads he has.
Here is his website if you want to take a look see:

P.S. I just got off the line with an engine builder I've been talking with about this and he agrees that the heads I want for the power output are going to be more expesive.
He is faxing me a build sheet for the motor we talked about. I'll let you know which heads he lists.

I would skip the AFR heads...I know I'll get flamed for this. My machinist won't touch them with a 10-foot pole. Has too many QA problems and needs to do too much work to them to make them work.
He uses Brodix heads almost exclusively. We have a set of 227CC Track1X's flowing 305 CFM through the intake for my 427 SBC. Complete with CNC work they ran us $2200.
He took a set of AFR 227's off another 427 SBC (since they were leaking air and other issues) and bolted the Brodix heads on and is making 795 FWHP NA. They are in a LOWWWW 9-sec drag car.
He says you'll save $300-$400 in purchasing AFR's, but you'll spend $600 to make them work.
I know there are a lot of people on this forum that use AFR's and love them, but I thought you should know the other side of the coin as well.
You are WAY low on the wheels/tires combo if you are looking at anything but stock units. CCW's are $1800/set for the wheels alone, the cheapest I found by 50% over anyone else making 3-piece forged wheels.
We spent $1800 on a complete Crower forged rotating kit - balanced from Crower.
You didn't say what size the motor will be, but World Products makes a good big-cube ready block with raised cam for about the same price as the Dart block. http://www.worldcastings.com/docs/03...otownblock.pdf Go to page 2 for the race block.... the 084130 block is $1939.99 at Jegs.
The DFI figure on the high side. I talked to a few places, and I got it quoted for around $3200 with custom wiring harness to just plug into the harness in the car. Saves the hassle of butchering your harness and screwing something up.
Looks like fun. I think you are in the ballpark on the price. When mine is done...with machine work...I will have spent close to $18k. That's getting parts at cost.
It is a slippery slope you are climbing. When is enough not enough???
When there is more to be had!!!!
I don't even have the motor finished yet and am already thinking about the first rebuild/freshening session with lower compression pistons, new cam and a S/C with intercooler.
Isn't insanity great?
